Perm Krai history is rich in various events. A number of different peoples inhabited the territories of our region for centuries. Each of them brought unique culture and religion with them. This is the way how paganism came to Perm Krai that was then changed by Christianity. Islam and Judaism spread in the region from neighbouring territories. Many new religions have appeared in Perm Krai recently because of processes going on in contemporary society.
The are insitutions of 6 major religions in our region today. They are: Russian Orthodox Church, Russian Oldbeliever Church, Judaism, Roman Catholic Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Interfaith advisory committee of Perm Krai was organized in 1998. Among its main goals are association of 6 leading religions representatives, cooperation with governmental authorities, communication with Perm Krai residents, providing aid and encouragement to them.
